For over 2.5 years I have been trying to ID this Coral. I have never seen one like it. I have posted pics here on RC in the past and 99% of the people say its a green slimmer.

I think thats due to the photo I usually post. Its normally just a photo of the coral by its self without reference to size, shape, or color. Hopefully these comparsion pics will help me get an ID on this lovely stony!!!!!

I know people will say "who cares, just be happy you have a nice coral" but I would like to know. Wouldnt you? Every once in a while you get lucky and end up with something rare.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks:D

Unknown yellow Acro
-grows SUPER slow
-grows in a tight formation
-does not produce excess slime
-grows downward / encrusting long before it grows upward

Notice the corals. The unknown has been in this system for 2.5 years, the slimmer 4 months. The slimmer was a 2 branch twig!!! It grows like a weed.

While it is virtually impossible to get a positive ID on an Acropora without microscopic analysis of the skeleton (and even that is far from fool proof), here is a link to a site that is great for narrowing it down to a few possibilities. Bare in mind that captivity can alter the development and growth patterns of Acropora so severely that they no longer resemble their wild conspecifics, making an ID impossible. But, this is the best resource Ive seen so far:
