Im in the middle of rebuilding my house and am planing a large tank, the plans are 10ft.long ,4ft.wide,30in.tall starphire front tank, all is planed and the glass is about to be ordered 2 weeks to get to me,im in mx.

I have a 10,000 gallon koi pond ,in the yard ,a friend built for me ,he is the same friend that is helping with my new tank ,
the pond is built out of concrete wich looks real cool and natural

my question is? we where thinkin ,he says he could build sides and back out of the same material used to build the pond
since it will be an inwall we would just order the front starphire plate,

any links to this kind of tank

there would be alot of cool benifits caves canyons to place the LR on

thanks for your time

one more thing

one more thing

it will be a reef tank,i will be moving all the inhabitants of my 180 in this new tank,LR lps and softies ,and fish and inverts, thanks

As far as I know, If you use concrete to build the 3 walls it will need to be coated with something. Concrete has very high ph until completely cured. A build of that size would take many months, maybe a year to cure and be safe enough to house any livestock, without some sort of coating. It's not considered a "safe" building material on it's own.

Check out "The Reef Aquarium Vol 3" by Delbeek and Sprung. It shows some examples of a couple large home displays and some public aquariums. They usually use shotcrete or gunite to form them like a swimming pool. And like CAReefer said, you must let it cure which would be lengthy. You might want to check out a public aquarium and talk to someone there. Good luck.

thanks
