A Couple Jawfish Questions

Ok, right now in my 90 I have a false percula clown, a true percula clown, a royal gramma, and a purple tang. For my next fish, I plan on adding a yellow head jawfish, but I have a few questions first...

1. How well do they clean the sand?

I have quite a bit of flow in my tank but still have a few dead spots and was wondering if the jawfish would be able to take care of that.

2. Would it be ok w/ the purple tang already in there?

I got the tank fully set up last year w/ 11 fish which included the royal gramma and the purple tang. I didn't know what I was doing at the time and the tank crashed. The royal gramma and purple tang ended up being the only two surviving fish.

Not really known as sand cleaners. They are sand flingers, but aside from their burrow, they won't really help you out there. They are great fish, fun to watch, lots of personality. It'd be fine with the tang. If tang causes trouble, JF will retreat to its burrow.

I might suggest a sand sifting gobie if that's what you're looking for. I had a pair of diamond sand sifters. Did a good job but really only cleaned one area of the tank. They are notorious jumpers. Need a canopy or cover and cover your overflows. My pink tail trigger took care of the other one. Now I stick to nassarius (sp?) snails for the sand bed.

I've had two diamond watchman gobies before and they did a good job. the first one died when the tank crashed. The second died because he never really came out to eat, and almost always staid in his burrow. I have plenty of nassarius snails already. I guess I'll probably get the jawfish and just live w/ the sand bed being dirty. *sigh*

how about a fighting conch or two. I hear they bulldoze pretty good.

I don't think you'll be sorry with the jawfish. a ton of fun to watch. they are nosey by nature, but at first you may not see it for a few days. after a while it'll build a burrow right up front. you'll begin to wonder who's watching who....

I have a fighting conch right now and he's pretty cool. I am going to go ahead and get the jawfish. I went to my LFS yesterday to see if they had one but they didn't. So, I aasked them to order one and their going to call me once they get it.

Good for you. Great fish. You'll be very entertained even if he doesn't help your sand situation.
