Well, i was at petco to buy some freshwater flakes, and i noticed they had a few maxi mini carpets. I asked the worker how they planned to sell two of them that were stuck to one large piece of rock, and she said she would sell the whole thing for $40...... wellll one maxi mini not attached to anything at the LFS around me are $60, so i decided id buy the two for $40.

I also know that the woman who sold the carpets to me and her manager own large saltwater tanks, and they know to some extent what theyr doing. IDK if they have reefs, but the tanks never look too bad at the store they work at.

they were under 2 bulb T5 at the store.

and here they are :D:

Ok, now my problem is, i dont want them to be on that big ugly rock. what do you all think is the best way to get them off? i actually wanted to put one or both in my 5g LED, but there is definitely no room for that large rock. for now, they are in my 75g under 4 bulbs of T5

The ice blue mouth on the one is awesome. Getting them off the rock is extremely tough, I have never been successful. I've tried pointing a powerhead right at them, and rubbing an ice cube on the foot (as close as I could get to it). They only reason I got to move mine is I added a RBTA and it walked near it causing it to move and I was there to snatch it up.

hmmm i was afraid of that. ill try all the other standards first. i might even put them near my GBTA and see if they move, but if none of that works, do you think i should just break up that rock? or would that cause too much stress/damage?

oh and i liked the blue mouth on that one too :)
its more of a lighter and darker blue striped throughout the mouth (like near the edge of the center), but it gets kinda blury as you go farther back because i wasnt holding the camera very steady.

I had the same problem with the maxi that's in my LED nano. Got it from PetCo, and they gave me the rock for free, since I insisted they not try to pull it off. I didn't need any more rock in my nano, and especially not their crappy rock. I got a tupperware container with enough tank water to cover the rock, and then went to work with a hammer, screwdriver, pliers, bonecutters and whatever else I could find until I had broken enough rock away to get to the foot. I then used a bamboo skewer (like the kind you can get at the grocery store in 100 packs for kabobs) and gently lifted one edge of the foot. From there, it peeled right off. Maxi went in my nano, rock went in the trash.

I just took one out of my pico, I took a hammer and screw driver and chipped it off the rock. Once you put them in the new location, they will move around a bit.

Mine moved maybe 1/2" to get situated the way it wanted to be. The one in my big tank did the same. Never had one wander around on me.

i have the same 2!!! from a southern illinios petco. thats a big rock. so far 6 of these, in the last two months these thing are almost bullet proof. they dont mind being moved as long as they can move afterwards. one of my last ones rubs against my bta. all good!
