A couple of questions on blue-eyed cardinalfish

Hi,

A month ago I purchased 7 blue-eyed cardinals from my LFS and put them in my QT.

I noticed after a few days, that out of the 7, only the 3 larger ones actually had the blue around the eyes. The other 4, whilst having a near identical body shape, if slightly narrow and longer, did not have the blue, and also had a small vertical black bar at the base of the tail.

Sadly, none of the small ones made it and today I moved the 3 with blue eyes into my display and they are doing well.

So, firstly, can anyone help me out in understanding whether the other 4 were a different type of cardinal and could the 3 larger ones have killed them off ?

Secondly, I'd like to get some more blue-eyes (making sure they are actually blue-eyes this time) to increase the size of the group. What are the chances that the existing trio will accept new additions into the group ?

from what little i know cardinal fish like to pair and bully the other cardinal fish. so i would not get anymore.

True I've only ever successfully kept a pair. I had a longer who killed all others for a year also. Bangai and pajamas are all I have experience with though

Blue eyes can be kept in large groups with no issues ..When they are happy they glow and the blue eyes are nice and bright when they are stressed they lose the blue eyes almost certain sign they are doomed.. They ship very poorly and if you can get them in good condition and eating they are very hardy..

HI, thanks for that information. Would you say that the four that I lost from my description were the same species and just looked different as they were not healthy.

The remaining 3 are still going strong and have really bright blue eyes and even some blue coming through on their fins now, so hopefully they'll do well.

What about adding more to my group of 3, are the existing ones likely to accept new additions ?
