A couple of Tunze 9002 questions

Hi,

I have a Tunze 9002 that's nearly 10 months old that I've had consistent problems with microbubbles. I've just kind of ignored them for the past few months, but I finally decided that I need to the problem fixed. I took the skimmer apart and found a piece towards the top of the skimmer that was cracked (First Picture). It's the part where the outlet pipe connects to.

I'm thinking that that is my main problem. I have no idea how this happened or how it would have happened, but how would I go about fixing it?

My second question I've had is how do I reassemble the skimmer? Do I put it back together like picture two or three? I've always done the latter, but then I end up with the cord having to wrap around the motor to be get out the hole. Is there something I'm missing? Or is that just a design flaw?

Thanks in advance!

Picture three is correct, you will wrap the cord on top of the pump before you slide it in, you will see a notch in the baffle plate for it to pass through.

The pump should be replaced, this damage would have occured in shipping. I doubt this is the cause of the bubbles as this would reduce the production of bubbles as they are added by the venturi after the pump and a crack would drop the pressure. The most likely cause is the airline passing in front of the venturi output.

If you send in the pump, we will replace it, include a note with your return address and phone number and we will have a replacement sent within a day of arrival-

I also have the same problem as you, the outlet cracked but my is after more than a year usage. I think it maybe design flaw as the outlet holder is too weak compare to old version pump so eventually it will crack after long run.

From what I have seen this can only happen in shipping from the pump coming loose and banging around, it is not something we often see later. The nozzle does not fit tight enough to stress the plastic, only if it is bent at an angle such as shipping damage would this occur.

It's ok when new and I disassembly for cleaning every quarterly. It only happens after a few months to years of usage so do you call it as wear n tear?

Since warranty is over, I might want to purchase a brand new pump but I afraid the problem might occur again. Currently I have gotten myself a 9004 n would like to use this 9002 as standby skimmer so kindly advice.

I have seen this problem 4 or 5 times in the last 4 years, so I don't think it is very common, I would say a new 1073.008 should give you many more years.
