a couple questions..on Goniopora?!??!

ok thanks i was just making sure! i dont think its dying at all cuz today pretty much all of the little polyps are coming out but they arnt very extended..i just wanted to know cuz im going on vacation on wednesday so i want to let the person who is watching my tank know what to look for. ill put up pics tomorrow maybe then it will be a little more opened! thanks for all your help

Just keep up with your target feedings and it should hopefully open up more and more in the coming months.

The one of mine that John helped me bring back had brown jelly, we think, but never actually saw it until it got bad. The first thing I noticed was the tissue peeling away from the skeleton. Just keep an eye on that lower perimeter of the coral. If more of the skeleton starts to show, then worry about it. If not then just have fun with it!

These things have to be fed, very small stuff as often as possible, its the only way to keep them.

Target feed them with tiny foods, cyclopeeze is great.

They live in turbid waters, which means twice a day they get all kinds of crud dumped on them, they take all the polychaete worms from the silt and expel the rest.

If you can provide an environment similar to that, then you'll have a happy goni.

For really small foods, I have been told micro vert by kent about 5 million times. Can anyone verify this?

For keeping Goniopora long term? I doubt it.

I agree with John when he says "I doubt it". We've always gotten really good results with Liquid Life or mashed up cyclopeeze.

yah good news!!! mine is fully fully opened this morning when i woke up i did a water change last night and i think it helped him out a lot!! should i start feeding him now??? and what should i exactly feed him..im gonna go buy it today..thanks...ill post pics today as well!

I feed mine a mix of cyclop-eeze (Liquid life) and phytoplankton. You could also try siphoning some juice off from melted mysis cubes.

I use a turkey baster to target feed mine and turn off the powerheads while I do it. This ensures that the food stays around them long enough that they can pull some nutrition out of the water.

It may take it a while to adjust to being target fed using a turkey baster and you probably won't notice it actually feed during this time. It took mine about a month to not retract in defense from the turkey baster.
