a definite tapping?

Hello again.

My 30 gallon cube is nearing the cycle finish? Nitrates are in the pink (finally) and there is no ammonia.

When I put in one of the LR, I had begun to occaisionally suspect I was hearing a little tapping noise about once every evening. /not loud, kind of quiet so I wasn't sure.

Now that the water is much nicer this morning(I did water maintenance-changed, oh, about 7 gallons out for new water.), there is a more regular and definite knocking. I heard it twice when I was testing the nitrates.

So, is there any way to get this guy to reveal himself so I know which one of the "clickers" that I have? I wanted to transfer my little tank and my two max certified clarkii into the larger before next week...they are two expensive clarkii and I can't afford that kind of little snack...help?

I would take a small glass ans fill it with tank water. Place a piece of shrimp in it, wait till it settle to the bottom of the glass and place the glass in the tank kind of tilted. Do this at night with the light off. You should have your specimen in the morning.
Good luck

Ok, It says, pistol shrimp are intolerant of high nitrates. Could they survive in high nitrates? My tank is just finishing its cycle.

The critter was definitely bothered. Would a mantis even notice the nitrates?
