1, 2 and 3 are great. I love a good clown/nem shot. The kole is framed really well and I like the photo, its just a little soft around the mouth and eyes which are a big focal point of the shot.

Yes, I agree, but as fast as this bugger was moving, I was lucky to get this shot! haha... I had at least 10 others that were completely unusable. :) Your tank is next!

I know what you mean about the stupid fish not holding still. I have about 300 pics of my potters and about 3 that are only slightly blurry.

viper - i used various apertures, shutter speeds, and iso settings. each pic is different. I'll give you one example - with the copperband shot, i used manual mode, iso 1000, shutter speed 200 (1/200th of a second), and f/22. I used a flash off camera, angled from the left. The main intent in that case was to have a shutter speed fast enough that i could shoot a moving fish, an aperture narrow enough that i had a large depth of field (helpful with a moving target), and then i had to compensate for getting enough light in, so i boosted my iso and added the flash. hope that helps.

josh - not to worry, it's my main objective to get you a shot of your potters that you like when I come out there. :) I'm actually talking with my buddies tonight about when is the best time to take the drive out. I'll keep you posted.

great looking pics.

i just upgraded to a d90 with the 105 lens. it should be arriving in the mail any day now. i cant wait to take some pics of my tank.

i have the nikkor micro lens - is it pretty similar to the 18-105?

no - they are not the same at all. The 18-105mm is your standard zoom lens - nothing fancy about it. The 105mm Micro-Nikkor is a macro lens - meaning, you can focus at really great sharpness only mere inches from your subject. It will take some getting used to as far as auto-focusing vs. manual focusing, using VR vs. not using VR, etc. While you're waiting for it to be delivered, try to read some online information about macro shooting - it will be helpful. Then, just keep playing around with it until you get the hang of it. Welcome to the hobby, welcome to Reef Central, and good luck!

thanks for the info.
can you reccomend any good macro photography articles or videos specifically coral / aquarium related? im having a hard time finding info about shooting macro with water involved
