Question for you Schnitz.. now that your tank is mature and have lots of colonies, what coral do you regret putting in your tank?

I have a little over 50 different SPS in my tank. If I were to move and build a new tank, I would only keep around 20 of those corals.

Most of the corals I purchased from LFS that were wild/mariculture, ended up not looking very nice. My fav corals all came from other hobbyists. I would rather pay double the price for a coral, and get it from a hobbyist. That way you know how the coral will look and grow. My ugliest corals were wild corals that we're "œsupposed to" be something nice, but ended up looking like poo.

Oh and no montiporas or digitatas in my next next. They just grow too fast

Tank uses so much co2 I have to run a 20lb bottle. Just swapped out my empty for a full one. I get it filled at Airgas. $53 for 20lb

If your tank is using co2 fast then add a kalk reactor that way less co2 higher ph and plenty of alk n calcium for your fast growing corals

Do you hook up your kalk reactor to a doser or just the top off relying on evaporation rate?

dosing pump that way I can program any amount or anytime and how many time? The apex osc command is great for this kind of dosing. For my tank I dose about 30ml per 30min 24/7 and I can reduce my co2 in my cal reactor down to 6.68 it was at 6.45 and I need more alkalinity. My ph was around 7.9 to 8.1 before and now is 8.0 to 8.27 I haven't measure phosphate yet and it suppose to drop when u dose kalk. I just start about a week.

Thanks for the tip! I currently use it through my top off.

I'll never mess with the stuff. One of the reasons I think my tank has done so well is because my setup is relatively simple. Less things to go wrong and cause major fluctuations. $50 once every 12-18 months to fill the co2 tank is not a big deal.

True that but kalk will help your tank minimize the red slime cyano coming back cause they dont like high ph so u dont have to do chemiclean like a few weeks ago
