do all newly set up tanks go thru a stage of diatomes? Any new suggestions on how to get rid of it? And how often do you need to empty your skimmer collection cup? Thanks -Jim

Most do, yes. It will go away on its own with time and a little help from your cleanup crew. The use of RO/DI water also highly recommended. Don't be surprised if it's followed by a green hair algae bloom as well. I would empty the collection cup on your skimmer daily if you can.

yes, it is part of the cycle. They will go away on their own. Do not interfere. Emty your cup when it is full. Every tank is different.
