A Great Meeting.

I wanted to thank Tim VanWagoner for building the MJ mods last night. Steve Callaham made a tape of the construction that we will edit and hopefully be able to post somewhere.

I also want to thank Travis Stevens for bringing the tanks so that we could examine the water flow from the individual units.

A big thanks also goes to Extreme Corals for sending us some awesome colonies to fragment and add to the Donor program. Thanks also to Paul Thompson for fragging the corals and to Chris Howe for supplying the frag disks for the club demo. I believe we made and gave away about 20 fragments last night.

If you received a frag, please make sure your name goes on to the frag list.

Also--- welcome to the new members that joined COMAS. I hope you enjoyed your first meeting and that you will become an active partcipant on the forum.

If you couldnt make it, the meeting was excellent....a very "hands on" event. Im sure more will be added to this thread concerning all the details of the construction etc, but the main take home message was that a well made MJ modification will surpass a Seio 1500 and is almost as powerful as the Tunze (pumping 2250g/h). Without a doubt the eco-tech (at 3,500g/h) was the most powerful. The Mj Mod cost $25 and the powerhead itself cost $20. So for $45, you get a really powerful and relatively small pump.

We fragged out several corals supplied by EXtreme Corals. The first was a tubinaria and the others were a branching Galaxea and some zoanthids. These were mounted to frag disks and raffled off.

Two of the completed MJs were also included as door prizes.

I would like to discuss more peoples thoughts about the Mj mods and the frags we made.

Thanks to all who attened, I think we had around 40 people.

Regards

Paul.

Yeah I had a great time. It was good to meet everybody too.
I really need to get my tank ready now since I won a frag of those zoos :D

How was the MJ mod as far as noise? Any rattle problems? Has anyone had a chance to check on if the mod makes the pump heat up any more than normal yet?
Which mod did you use, the deluxe with the carbon fiber tube or the standard mod?

I was very impressed by the MJ modification but like Paul, I wonder why they don't just make it like that to start out. Tim made the process look so simple that I think I would attempt it.

Great meeting! Thanks to Travis too. I now want sparkles in my tank...

Speaking of sparkles...........I had a lot of explaining to do as to why I was covered in glitter.....

Hey Paul did we happen to get video of this that will be put up? I didn't get to make it, and I would like to see how it all worked...

Kyle, some video was taken of the modified maxijet performance versus a few other power heads. I'm not sure what was taken of the mod procedures. If you go to www.mjmods.com they have a video of the procedures. Tim's demonstration was better tho.

Also at www.reefdom.com they sell fully assembled maxijet mod kits with warranty(?), altho these are a bit pricey.

Paul, Tim, or anyone who saw the comparisons. Just how well did the modded MJ1200 stand up to the higher dollar water movers?

Last night paul mentioned a controller that we could get for 40 dollars for the MJMods, can you send me to the website to buy these?!

thanks,
Dustin

i have one that i am not using if you would like it. Or if you want to try it? I dont really have a need for it anymore, i joined the Tunze club recently

EBHD, your mod.... we ran it....looked a little less than the ones we made, but I think the propeller in yours is a little smaller. We also noticed that one or the other (either carbon fiber or steel) (cant remember which) shaft worked a little better than the other, so it looks like there is a fair amount to be learned on this.

Also......... Nick (Nix Tank) can you elaborate on your eforts to buy parts locally.

Thanks,

P.

yeah, its is not near the quality of those mod kits that you guys used. I just thought everyone would like to see the way that kit was designed. I thought it was prety cool.

I'd just like to say that I felt that this was one of the better meetings I've been too. So much going on and so many new things to learn. I really enjoyed paul T. showing how to frag the Galaxia, Turbinaria, and Zoo's (with paul W. help to of course, and all those super gluers). Great job everyone!
