I wanted to thank Tim VanWagoner for building the MJ mods last night. Steve Callaham made a tape of the construction that we will edit and hopefully be able to post somewhere.
I also want to thank Travis Stevens for bringing the tanks so that we could examine the water flow from the individual units.
A big thanks also goes to Extreme Corals for sending us some awesome colonies to fragment and add to the Donor program. Thanks also to Paul Thompson for fragging the corals and to Chris Howe for supplying the frag disks for the club demo. I believe we made and gave away about 20 fragments last night.
If you received a frag, please make sure your name goes on to the frag list.
Also--- welcome to the new members that joined COMAS. I hope you enjoyed your first meeting and that you will become an active partcipant on the forum.
If you couldnt make it, the meeting was excellent....a very "hands on" event. Im sure more will be added to this thread concerning all the details of the construction etc, but the main take home message was that a well made MJ modification will surpass a Seio 1500 and is almost as powerful as the Tunze (pumping 2250g/h). Without a doubt the eco-tech (at 3,500g/h) was the most powerful. The Mj Mod cost $25 and the powerhead itself cost $20. So for $45, you get a really powerful and relatively small pump.
We fragged out several corals supplied by EXtreme Corals. The first was a tubinaria and the others were a branching Galaxea and some zoanthids. These were mounted to frag disks and raffled off.
Two of the completed MJs were also included as door prizes.
I would like to discuss more peoples thoughts about the Mj mods and the frags we made.
Thanks to all who attened, I think we had around 40 people.
Regards
Paul.
