A harlequin named Slash

I officially pulled the trigger and bought a harlequin shrimp for my asterina population. I have back up CC stars in the sump. I'd like to start a loaner program for this little guy for folks with a similar issue. Basically, you give me a deposit for the cost of the shrimp. If you return him alive to me, you get your deposit back. If someone else needs it, they can give the deposit to you etc. very similar to our HELP program. Slash mods and pres. let me know what you think.

Nice gesture. I have a few asterina starfish, but their population is self limiting based on how much algae is present. I enjoy seeing the naturally reproducing starfish!! Harlequin shrimp are pretty, but doomed to die as they outeat the starfish population rapidly:(

I appreciate the response. A couple factors that led to the purchase for me:

I like my purple coralline rocks and until all of that gets eaten, they will never be self limiting.

The asterinas are starting to irritate my lps by crawling all over them

Harlequins are beautiful and won't die if fed properly. I mentioned I have multiple CC stars in my sump ready to go.

Your idea of passing him around is great though! I had a pair for a couple of years a long time ago and fed them a chocolate chip star every week, got tiring. I lost the female after a molt and the male disappeared. I also tried again just a few years back in my 375 which had myriad asterinas, but they disappeared. They are beautiful shrimp for sure. My pair mated at least monthly.
