A heartfelt THANK YOU to RC (and to TTM!)

So, my first saltwater tank was started some 35 years ago, and while it hooked me on the hobby (and turned my passion into a marine biology degree), it proved to be often stressful and sadly not overly successful due to my teenage knowledge and husbandry skills, the housekeeping practices at that time and my living FAR from any ocean in the central US.

Fast forward to last spring, and my desire to reenter the hobby after a decade lay-off. I had never QT'ed fish before, but like many had numerous bouts with Ich and other assorted parasites, usually with disastrous consequences. So after spending months reading and researching RC and using the amazing wealth of knowledge here at Reef Central as my guide, I began to assemble my 125 G tank and decided to fully commit to quarantining the inhabitants of my new tank. In April of 2015 I set up a simple (2) 10G QT system, and faithfully followed a procedure including an introductory 50min formalin bath followed by 2 weeks of TTM and two 3-day rounds of PraziPro. Once I completed these procedures and observational time showed no signs of sickness and the fishes were eating well I would transfer them to my DT.

While I did lose 2 fish in QT (a small Tang that I could never get to eat and a Coral Beauty that was delivered in bad shape with fin rot and sores and never responded to antibiotic treatment), my DT is now fully (err, perhaps "œover") stocked with beautiful healthy fish. While I'm not naïve enough to think I won't have some issue down the road or be subject to some pending disaster (my last reef blew out a seam and spilled the contents into my living room :mad2:) having an tank full of hardy, adjusted, ravenous and ich and parasite-free fish is pretty damn rewarding!

So THANK YOU to the RC moderators and to the users for taking the time to share your knowledge and stubbornly promote husbandry practices which, while not always convenient and/or fun, ensure we have the best chances for reef-keeping success! This has without a doubt been the most enjoyable reef-keeping experience for me and my family...
