A. Latezonatus clowns

Tagging along, I have been looking for a pair of latez for along time I would love to see some pics if anyone has them.

a few people here keep latez. if they don't chime in do a search.
i can tell you that ORA offered tank bred latez years ago. apparently wasn't enough demand, don't really know what happened.
in a similar vein ORA told me that they currently have a pair of 'gasters in a display tank which could go into production if they begin to spawn. i'd prefer A. chrysogaster over the cooler water A. latezonatus. again they would be a hard sell to the mass market who wouldn't know a 'gaster from a clarkii.
A. mcculloch another cooler water species with a limited range are currently being tank bred by one guy down under who managed to get a limited collector permit.

Latz tend to come in in bunches. You can go a year or two when you don't see any and then all of a sudden for about 2 months everyone has some to sell.

They are a high priced item with limited mass market appeal and a really poor survival rate. Every couple years the collectors and/or importers bring in a bunch and make a quick buck before the buyers remember why they stopped ordering them the last time. :(

IME they do really well. I have a large pair right now that is doing very well kept in 75-78 degree temps. Eating mysis and everything. Last month i received a pair and a single male which are still alive and kicking here in Hawaii by a breeder who is trying to breed them. They were all from a legit collector in AU. It probably helps if they only go through one hand rather then the usual 3 or 4.

gaster clowns dont do anything for me and are not as rare as the latz from what i can tell (and not as nice looking IMO) Still a neat little clown (but i also heard they dont that well)

I never heard ORA was breeding them. Those I would have been interested in.

One of my favorite fish, but watching 4 pairs go blind by one year (2 in cold, 2 in warm tanks) was pretty depressing. I'm glad sedgro's have been alive that long.

They guy breeding A. mcculloch also has a breeding pair of latz. Last I knew he had juvies past day 11.

I have a pair for over a year now, they even survived a move about two months ago. There are still no signs of blindness, or any other problems. They host in my bubbletips. They eat mysis, flake, brine, and pretty much anything else I give them, lol. I need to get some new pics up, but you can see older shots in my gallery.

I got them from Blue Zoo Aquatics after speaking with them two times at length. I think a lot of the survival has to do with handling before reaching the states- I know they are very susceptible to brookynella.

I haven't seen any available in a while, though.

Yeah James, please do show us new pictures of your Latz. So glad to hear they are doing well. :D I also got fish from bluezoo (not latz) and they are healthy and happy as can be (knock on wood):)

I'll try and get some new shots after work tonight. I haven't gotten the new aquascaping done after the move- I've been depressed because I lost a couple of my favorite acros in the move...

i just gave the pair to a local breeder who breeds other clowns. I hope to get some juveniles in the near future. they are definitely a nice clownfish. nice blue lips!

I never heard of ORA breeding them either.
