A little announcement...

Well, things have been hectic and stressful around the house lately for many reasons. Now they are going to get more stressful. I've been holding off saying anything about this until the time got closer, but I think it's time to go ahead and announce it, as those who come over tomorrow will know anyway. Jennifer was offered a promotion with her company in Montgomery, Al. and starts work on Tuesday there... She found out about the position on Monday, so there hasn't been too much time to react. I will not be leaving town immediately, as I have not found a job down there yet. I'll be here most likely for at least another couple of weeks to a month (gotta paint and sell the house, etc., too). Before November, she'd have been hard pressed to get me to leave my job (I've got it made-my bosses are on the West Coast, so I run it as I please), but things within my company have changed and I am no longer happy at all. We are starting to think of kids, too, so moving closer to her family makes her feel a lot more comfortable about that. it's a good thing and a bad thing... One of the things that makes me so content in Nashville is the reef club. It's great to be able to get together every night with everyone to discuss the hobby. When the club formed and I was introduced to Reef Central, I was instantly addicted. The club that has developed is a great club full of great people and I'm going to miss you all tremendously when I leave. I still plan to be fixture around the forum (not sure if there is anything in South Alabama at all-need to check, but I guess it is only an hour from B'mingham, so I think NARC is there). This is the hardest part for me (aside from moving further from my family). I get sad whenever I think to long on it...

Anyway, that is going to leave an open position for Presidential nomination. There are a number of you that I would recommend for this position, but I don't want to name names because I've got a list and wouldn't want to leave anyone out. I'll gladly continue doing anything I have been doing until I am out of town (like I said, it could be weeks or a month or more) and will gladly help out with anything else I can even after I leave. We suspected something along these lines might happen (the move), but were not thinking anything at all on this short a time frame. That is where the ulterior motive I mentioned in the gflat has clap thread comes in. I wanted to make sure enough people saw what I was doing for the initial swap set up to just pick it up next year and keep it rolling along. Last year's was a great success, so if this one goes off as well, than MTRC frag swaps should only continue to grow over the years. It's long been an idea for me to have frag swaps in every part of the state at 3-4 month intervals (East Tn are, Middle Tn area and West Tn area) to bring in a variety of different people and corals and ensure that no one has to go very long between fixes;). Tennessee has some very strong clubs, so that is an excellent possibility for the future.

Anyway, my main message is that I will be moving some time in the pretty near future. I'll be bacheloring it up during the weeks until I move (Jenn's coming home on the weekends), but the move is inevitable. I hope this explains why I've fallen down on the swap already a few times. I'm pretty stressed out with the whole move idea (the tanks are going to be a monster). I've got so much on my mind, I forget what I'm supposed to be doing most of the time these days...

Wow. Im not sure how you are going to break this to your wife, but, you can't go man. :P

Seriously though, congratulations. Montgomery is a nice city. My dad was down there for about 6 months this year working with FEMA. I think you'll like it.

I hate to see you go, but you've left the club in a good place.

Also, I suck at goodbye stuff, so Ill just end by saying thanks for the work you put into this for all of us :)

Oh great....a power vacuum. Hopefully no blood will be shed. Sorry to hear this Gary. It's been a pleasure having you as a friend. 'bama is getting a good one. You guys thinking about offspring huh?? Very cool. I'm in for any help on the move. Just let me know.

Best of luck, Gary! Thanks for all of the hard work you have put into the club and into the swap. Let me know if you ever need some help with anything.

Jack

We will all be sorry to see you go. It seems like a lot of the original memebers are either leaving or getting out. You have done a great job with the swap and everything else. I coudn't do half of what you have done.

Good luck Gary! The club hates to loose such a hard worker and leader like yourself, but you have to do whatever is best for you and your family. Let me know if I can help with anything. I have relatives in Mobile and lived there for 6-7 years, so let me know if your need any advice on where to buy and where not to buy a home down there.

Wow .. don't know what to say. I guess congrats are in order to the two of you. Moving up in the world is always a good thing it can come with sacrifices though :(

Its going to be a long drive though for you to the club meetings. We can try to schedule them early so you can make it back not too late. No, the club is surely going to miss you. You have done alot for us all. Good luck with your endeavors.

WOW.. gary. Give Jen My congradts. you have been so very helpful to me. I will miss you greatly. I wish I had your zest for baing able to join us all together. Hopefully one of us slackers will step up to the plate and continue your hard work.

gary, i hate to hear that but coming from someone thats relocated MANY times i understand. things are going to be for the best. i hope this swap is a damn good one, itll be fitting to send our prez. off like that. see you tommorow!<~~~steve

p.s- could you pm me youre address for mapquest?

Congratulations, Gary. I've only been to a few meetings, but I've always been made welcome and I've learned. I see from all the postings on RC how much of a contribution you have made.

I'm sure Jennifer will be very happy in Montgomery and we'll let you visit her often.

Congradulations! It will surely be Alabama's gain to have ya'll down there.

Thanks for all the kind words. The idea of moving is daunting. It's only a 4 hour drive, so it's not much further than Knoxville. I'll be in Auburn country, though... I grew up with the Orange (north of Memphis), so that wasn't a big deal, but now I've got to go to the land of Tubby... We Ole Miss folks aren't too fond of Tubby;).

Thanks Tomoko. That helps out tremendously:). I figured there had to be something in that area, but hadn't had a chance to check yet. Excellent.

You're welcome. I hope you can help them get it going really well. Both Birmingham and Montgomery area people tried to get clubs going a few times in the last few years, but they never really succeeded. I think that they were simply lacking a strong leader to push things along IMHO. There seems to be a number of reefers around Montgomery area interested in getting together, too.

I figured with Auburn right around the corner, there had to be some college reef geeks, too. I know Oxford (though a tiny town back then-on the grow now) had quite a few reef geeks when I was there (always wanted to try to start something there, but that was almost 10 years ago now...). I hope it can all work out. LFS support and a fourm to discuss are the two biggies...

You're right. Auburn students also tried a few times to get together, too. There are some reefers there besides the students as well. A few Tuscaloosa kids show up to NARC meeting periodically. I bet they appreciate getting together with folks close by.

I am sure you can get it to work. They all seem to be nice easy going people.

Good luck!

Tomoko
