a little concerned

SO yesterday i did my first tank transfer, which turned out to be a success so far. I took my time over the last week and leveled the stand, water tested the tank, and then completed the transfer. I wake up today and there is salt crepe along the bottom rim (4-5"). Does this necessarily mean that my tank isnt holding water or is this normal. I had this on my smaller tank but paid no attention. Should i be concerned???

I would get to the bottom of it Rich...it's def not where water splashed over the rim and settled down on the base trim?

Clean it well and monitor it. Its possible that you just managed to spill when you transferred, or that some of your equipment is getting splashed (lights) and "funneling" it to that spot.

pretty sure i cleaned the heck outta the front of the tank after i did the transfer. Ill wipe it off and check it in a couple hours. Is there a remedy besides replacing the whole tank?

Opinion - small tank that isn't going to break the bank, replace it. Larger tank, try resealing, but know that you may have to replace the tank. If it's a new tank, it probably under warranty though, and I would replace before I'd risk a blow out down the line.

Yeah, that's definitely suspect, and unnerving. Best you can do is like they said, clean it, wait, watch. Be prepared with plenty of water and salt mix in case you need to pull a tank swap.

Check the underside of the tank. IME when the bottom part of a tank seal goes, it will show on the bottom. If you are noticing salt creep only on the bottom rim (front/back or side), I am inclined to consider it residual simply because it's dry.

thanks everybody for the replies/comments.....cleaned the area and am closely monitoring and also showed the wife and kid what to look for if im not around. It is pretty nerve racking and frustrating with the time and money i spent on this upgrade...hopefully it doesnt come back. Thanks again!!!!
