Hello everybody, I´ve and aquarium that i´ve been using it for treating fish against ICH, how can I cleane it so I can use it again for building a new reef tank? I heard that if you put copper on a tank for treating fish, you can not use it again for reefing, is there any product that i could use? Thank you very much guys.

You can use warm water and vinegar. That's the safest way. I know some people who use a 50:50 mix of bleech and water and then rinse the tank out a number of times as well.

If you used copper products in it you can never use the tank for a reef. The copper will always leach out of the silicone and kill your inverts.

thanks for you´re answer, that´s exactly what they told me, I guess I´ll have to get a new tank for my seahorses, see ya

IMO thats a bunch of bologna. Ive used aquariums that were treated with copper before and ran them as reef tanks and never had any issues. The silicone might absorb some copper but will not leach it back into the system. Thats probably one of the biggest myths out there.. Just my .02

ui ui ui... now I don´t know what to do, I wolud like to hear more opinions, I´m about to set it up, and I´m not sure if I can use it or not, thanks everybody

Its absolutely fine.

Copper does not leach into glass and silicone. That myth is complete baloney.

Just rinse it with vinegar.

Salt mix has copper in it.

+1 on the myth!

we really should get mythbusters to bust some of these tardo myths in our hobby.

clean that joker out as suggested above and go to town :)

Thank you guys, I guess I´m going to try it out, I can always try putting some shrimp I can get from the beach and if the live, I guess it´ll be ok, I´ll cleane it up this weekend and give it a try, see ya

You don't need to test it, it's true that it's a myth that a tank once treated w/ Cu will kill any invert in the future----just think about it--it makes no common sense.
A tank w/ LR and sand AND treated w/ Cu will have residual Cu remaining in the matrices of the substrate.
