I have been having a really hard time keeping larva alive past the first night. I would go to bed right after hatch with a tank full of larva and wake up with about 10-15 left. Still to this day I have no clue what I am doing wrong, because I'm using brood stock water and everything else.
But last night I came home late from moving my mother in law and I noticed my brood stock tank was swarming with freshly hatched baby clowns. I normally like to remove the pot from the tank so that the larva can hatch in a safe place. So as you can tell I was totally caught off guard.
The only thing that I had next to me was a one gallon glass mason jar so I was able to quickly scope out somewhere around 100 +or- fry. As stated before I had nothing set up so I really didn't know what I was going to do. It was getting late and I was getting tired and frustrated so I simply placed the one gallon jar inside of my sump (with the top above the water line) with and airline. I also added some rotifer and only 2 drops of rotigrow +.
I didn't expect anything but when I looked at them this afternoon I was only able to pull out 3 dead fry. That in it self is huge for me since I normally kill about 80-90% in the first night.
So If there is anyone else having issues in the first 24 hours maybe you should try this VARY simple method. I think I will keep them in the jar for about a week and then I will move the whole jar over to a 10 or 20g tank for a LONG acclimation to their new home and see how it goes.
