I've discovered a way to eliminate that PITA bryopsis algae that many of us encounter over the years of reef keeping. My tank was recently introduced bryopsis from a frag that had bryopsis. I never cared for it until it started spreading to my other frags and live rock.
I then began my search for solutions to get rid of the algae. Seemed like everyone had success by raising their mag to high levels (1500-1700) using only Tech M magnesium from Kent, which contains a inactive chemical in there magnesium mix that slowly kills off the bryopsis. They also stated that it is a completey reef safe ( wont affect fish or corals) and that only their snails began sluggish and recuperate after the treatment is over. With some many people having success with this treatment. I tried it out for myself.
After the fish couple weeks and slowly raising my mag up to 1600, the bryopsis kept on holding on with little to no affect on them. Yet some of my polyps didnt like it at all. Being that ive invested big bucks on a few collector zoas, i had to find another way of stopping the spread of the algae. I couldnt risk losing corals.
I then discovered a natural predator to this pesky algae while i was working( i work at my lfs). In the reef tanks that we keep only mexican turbo snails, no signs of bryopsis was present. But the other reef tanks in the shop had bryopsis growin. which contained other snails like astreas, ceriths, etc had no interest with bryopsis. I then experimented with the turbo snails by placing a group of them in patches of bryopsis growing on some egg crates. By the end of the day, those patches of egg crate infested with broypsis was devoured clean.
My experiment continued. That night, I borrowed 10 turbo snails from work to clean up my reef(45g jbj rl). Within an hour of being in my reef, they started putting in work on the bryopsis. I have pictures and a video as i documented this experiment to show you fellow reefers a Proven/Natural way to eliminate the dreaded Bryopsis from taking over your reef.

Well that ends my documentation. With that said, you should only trust a Mexican... Turbo Snail to get the yard work done...in your reef. They're the only one who get the job done right!... ( no offense LOL)
