Well this will be my 4th build thread on RC...has anyone discovered a cure for this disease yet?
My newest build will be a 75 gal custom tank. I am very excited about getting my new glass. Over the past few months I have been building a new home office space, one of the perks of the kids moving out. Construction continues but it is almost finished.
My inspiration for this new tank will be Deep Space, thus the reference to Carl Sagan's famous words after seeing a photograph of Earth taken from Voyager I as it left our solar system. As some here know, I am a photographer and my favorite subjects are rocket launches and deep space objects - see my homepage for some of my works. This will be a very interesting project for me as I try to bring into this reef some of the shapes and colors often seen in my deep space photos. It may not turn out this way but it gives me something to work towards, and it should be a lot of fun!
At this time I am torn between two tank designs, one 32x32x18 and the other 40x24x18. In either case the tank will have a black back wall, black silicon, and Starfire Glass on 3 sides. Behind the back wall will be my overflow area as well as (perhaps) a dedicated refugium. I wanted the refugium to be part of the DT as opposed to the sump for a few reasons, one being I was thinking about some mangroves to add a natural touch, and secondly I want to provide a protected food source for copepods...a mandarin will make for a perfect alien species don't you think. I plan on using EchoTech LED lighting, for me the idea of RGB controlled colors will be fantastic"¦RGB colors are the primary color filters I use in my dedicated CCD camera that is attached to my telescope. Of course automation will be key in my design, as it in my astrophotography.
If anyone has suggestions for the tank feel free to chime in. I'm looking forward to posting pics of my progress.
