I plan on fallowing my tank for 8-10 weeks or longer. The question I have is should I remove my Mandarin's. I know that they seldom carry ich but i worry they might have it in there gill's. I would guess the answer is yes, but figured I'd ask.

Any thought's?

The answer is yes, but I think you know that. ;)

As you say, the parasite can live on in the gills of the mandarin even if it doesnt manifest on teh skin visually.

Go grab a net!!

I actually dealt with this when fallowing my tank as well. I actually set up a 12g Nano to place the Mandarin in for her own QT. I purchased a few packs of Mandarin bugs and placed some sponges in the rear of the tank with the pump. She's been in there for seven weeks with no problems.

As for your question, yes, they can carry Crypto, how you have to remember that the parasite needs a host to survive. If you don't see any signs of the parasite on the fish over the course of three weeks, then it would be safe to say it's not infected.

For observation though, I would remove them if you can while you fallow the tank.

Thanks I was pretty sure what i needed to do but it never hurt to double check ;).

Copepods, Amphipods, etc. I just call them bugs as this is what they look like.

Pick up a bag or two, pour one into the main portion of the isolation group and one in an area that the fish can't get to. Mandarins will decimate an Amphipod population in a matter of days unless there is a safe place for them to breed.
