I bought my first rainbow trachy coral on Friday based on a photo posted online by LFS. It is a beautiful rainbow trachy and LFS only received it from their supplier a few days ago. When i first saw it it was very bright and also looked quite white. I took it home and was thinking this coral looks a bit odd but i couldnt pinpoint what was it. After spending several of hours to examine it i found that the coral body basically is made up of three colour tone. A small area have bright deep rich beautiful colour, a large area that have ve4y faded light colour tone and some area is just white. The trachy is fully deflated and sit tight on skeleton. I now realised that the white area are completed bleached flesh, and the faded area are in the process of bleaching.
Could someone please let me know can a trachy starts bleeding and got to this stage in a matter of days at LFS. Bleached area is around 30% of the body, bleaching area is about 50% and remaining 20% is full colour. I spoke to the owner he said trachy takes longer to inflat but he avoided talking about the bleaching problem. I now have put it in a low light and low flow area and i tried to target feeding it with mysis. Unfortunately it only has very little and small no of tenacles come out at night and when i dropped mysis to tenacles they showed no eating response. Is there anything i can do to rescue it? I am still very curious about how quickly it bleached.
