A test

Hello, Found this guy broken and laying at the bottom of the sea. Hear it was a "Elk Horn" coral. Just trying to find more info on it. it started growing pretty good in my tank (sps dominated) and started getting a little green near the new growth areas.

ohhh. Not sure how "legal" it was to grab that. What sea did you get this from? If it is the Acropora Palmata "elk horn" then I believe it is a difficult one for the average aquarium. It will need a ridiculous amount of water flow.

FL keys, it has plenty of water flow. It might not have been legal, but somone broke the peice off a big formation and it was sitting in the sand dieing. I couldnt let it.

It's Palmata then. I remember going to a lecture years ago at the last IMAC and hearing about a spawning program on Palmata. There was discussion on the heavy flow it need to sustain it, so much that other corals in the aquarium would be blown around. But if it is doing okay for you that's awesome.

May I suggest you not post pics about it. You could get in some very serious trouble if they are viewed by anyone in Wildlife law enforcement. Also in the future let it sit where you saw it. I know you have good intentions but A palmata is in major trouble in the keys and pieces break off from storm surges and strong waves all the time. It wasn't necessarily broken by someone else. They are having problems reproducing sexually due to insufficient numbers and asexual reproduction may be the key to their survival for now.
