A thought on tank covers... hang mesh plastic covers just at water height, IN tank?

I've been thinking about this problem of fish jumping (there are a few of them on my potential fish list) and I've looked at the homemade options, etc... but they really don't look great.

Is there a thread somewhere or a method of using say, the plastic knitting screens and putting a rim around it that fits just INSIDE the tank, with some small attachments in the corners to hook it to the top rim of the tank?

The thought is that if the attachments are in the corner, they will be less noticeable, and if the mesh is at water level, it doesn't ruin the aesthetic of the top of the tank.

If you had to remove it for maintenance, etc, and a fish jumped, you would presumably be right there to catch the offender and get him back to safety.

...

It may also be handy to have a few areas of the mesh that can be 'opened' or 'removed' temporarily do put basters, defroster, arm, etc down in the tank, but I'd have to put more thought into how to support those areas, and how best to reclose it securely. I dont know that it would be worth the trouble lol.

Is there anything like this out there?

The mesh in the water is going to collect a lot of detritus, etc...

I tried plastic mesh holding chaeto, gets dirty fast

Mesh acts as a trap for debris

Above water line but below top of tank if you have the extra inches
Suction cups on edges to hold up mesh/screen

Artfully Acrylic lid / covers are really kewl. They have tabs on the top corners that hold the lid up. You might be able to make something like this.

They are cool, and nice. Maybe one day someone will start selling the like at better prices, because those seem way more expensive than they need to be.

They just don't have the volume to drive costs down..
The pricing is quite reasonable for what it is,etc...

low volume/custom good quality acrylic work ain't cheap..

I used the Innovative Marine DIY mesh screen lid kit and the tabs you can buy for use on rimless aquariums. Instead of that plastic knitting screen it came with I got some from the fabric section at Walmart. I personally thought it looked better and was easier to work with.
