A Whole New Dimension

Sweet tank. Really liking your selection of corals and fish are beautiful as well.

btw invest in one of these! http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/products/glass-cleaners/easy-blade-algae-scrapers-black.html You'll thank me later. You could clean the front glass of coraline in a matter of minutes and never have to lay a finger in the tank!! You'll be saying why haven't I got one of these earlier! :hammer:

Thanks for the tip and the compliments!! I'll look into those. I actually recently ordered the Mighty Magnet Algae Dozer and scrubber pad, as part of a group buy our club put together. I'm interested to see how those work.

As seen here, http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2001457 , I picked up a new clam, yesterday, from Coral Props, one of our great Sponsors!

Here's the first photo I took of it, during our field trip, Feb. 20, 2011, while it was still in QT.

Here's a photo, from yesterday, at the greenhouse, in his system, receiving more sunlight than in QT.

Here it is, in my tank. Just got home, and took this photo, a few minutes ago. Unfortunately, shooting it through the glass, doesn't really show the different shades of beautiful green.

The clam actually looks much like Coral Props photos, on his website. The difference in the above photos is because the final photo, taken in my tank, is from the side, instead of from the top. With clams, this makes a HUGE difference!

Happy Easter everyone!!

While doing a large water change, this morning, I decided to play around with the camera. I shot some reflections, some "top downs" without needing a look down box and even some corals, out of water.

A little difficult to tell, but this one is completely out of the water.

Corals are looking really good! What's your feeding/dosing/maintenance routine?

Thank you!

I feed the tank several different frozen foods, including Rods Food (Original), Rods Food (Herbivore) and occasionally Rods Food (Coral Diet). I also feed frozen Cyclopeeze and a frozen mix that I make, myself. I also feed dried algae sheets, for the herbivorous fish. I rarely spot feed corals, except for the couple non photosynthetic species that I have. Occasionally, I do spot feed Acans and Echinos, but not often at all.

I do feed, specifically for corals, but again, not very regularly. When I do, I feed frozen Cyclopeeze and Coral Frenzy.

Dosing:

I have a Calcium Reactor, though it's not online right now, due to a mishap that needs to be corrected, before I put it back online again. For now, and in tanks in the past, I make my own supplements, using Randy's DIY Recipes. I dose for Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium.

Maintenance:

My Maintenance is seriously lacking lately. My goal is to do a 30 gallon water change, every 2 weeks. Lately, I've been doing it, about every month, instead.

Our latest addition, picked up from Aquatic Dreams, yesterday. Hopefully this bugger will eradicate the Majanos that we've been dealing with, due to my laziness.

Acreichthys tomentosus (Matted Filefish)

WOW can this one hide, in plain sight. To start with, it took Kevin probably 30 minutes to catch it, because we were both looking for it, forever, and finally, Kevin found it sitting in a corner, right in front of both of us!! I expected Kevin to charge me a "catching fee," since he spent so much time on it...lol.

Then, today, I hunt for it, to take these photos, for almost an hour, and am about to give up when I see it, 3" from my face. It'd been sitting there, the entire time!!

I researched these, for the purpose of battling Majanos, for several months before finally deciding to give it a try. They seem to do a great job, with Majano and Anemone, but have mixed "reef safe," results. Most have had no issues with them at all, but some have had them go after Zoanthids, after they're done with the Majanos and Aptasia. So, we'll be keeping a close eye on this one!

Success?? Too early to tell, however, I am watching it swim around, nipping at Majanos, right now! As far as I'm concerned, that's a VERY good sign!

Long overdo bulb change. While I had all the old bulbs out, I decided to remove and clean the reflectors. Before and After photos were both taken, with identical camera settings and un-edited, so as to show the actual difference.

Super nice aquascaping + coral set-up you have got there. I must admit I'm a bit jalouse of you fantastic clams.

You are a really gifted photographer. Looking forward to following your thread

Thank you very much.

I like the before shot. Are you sure you have them in the right order? :)

Dave.M

Dave, keep in mind that both photos were shot, without making any changes to the camera settings. What this means is, the camera was set to properly expose the Before shot. So, keeping the settings the same, the After shot was actually over-exposed. Had I set the camera to properly expose both photos, you wouldn't have seen how much brighter the new lights truly are.

Funny thing is, my oldest daughter liked the before photo better too...lol.

Filefish is showing more and more success. I'm actually noticing it pick at Majanos, more consistently. Also, there are areas where whole patches of Majanos are now MISSING! I would guesstimate that probably 30% of the Majanos are now gone!

Yesterday evening, I noticed some warfare going on, between the Stylophora and M. digitata, which the digitata was definitely LOSING. Decided to snap a couple pics.
