a wondrous sight....

My clownfish's eggs hatched this evening.
I am not collecting them this time, because there is no room for them at the inn, but I wanted to see them anyway, so I set a flashlight on top of the eggcrate and waited. Tiny glowing things appeared, too small to be larvae. A crazy worm wiggled wildly in the light swimming, probably for the tiny glowing things. Then the larvae started arriving. :eek1:

Just a few at first. I called my kids out of bed. They got bored, so I sent them to bed.

More and more larvae arrived until there was a tornado of larvae in the beam of light. I was so excited! :bounce1: I called my kids out of bed again. My son was the only one awake. He said something about mass murder, and went back to bed.

I tried to take pictures, but the light was, you know, low. The picture software is in the bedroom computer where my husband is sleeping, so I'll try to post tomorrow. It was awesome....

It certainly was...and it is a miracle. If only my kids could appreciate it. I guess miracles are a dime a dozen for them. Maybe they will remember it when they are old like me.

I remember when my Mom tried to have me experience the miracle of life. She got a male and female rabbit -- but before the babies could be born, wild dogs broke into the rabbit hutch and ate the rabbits.

In a way, I really DID get to see the miracle of life... just not maybe the way she expected.

Perhaps because they see your tank every day, it's just commonplace to them. They are not intimately involved with it, so they don't understand the life or death struggle to keep the animals alive.

Or perhaps your kids are changlings. Are you SURE they are yours?! )

I saw each of them when they first came up for air, and my husband took tasteful pictures, so I am sure they ARE mine.

They must have inherited my husband's interest in biology. He's a rocket scientist of sorts.

Has anyone every tried to ship larvae?

Do you think you could fill a bag with a couple gallons of water, lots of rots, some green water and mail it next day and actually get any survivors.

Just a thought.

I added more grow out tanks last night and don't have anything to but in them ….yet.

People do that all the time with food fish, there is no need for food, is the container/box is dark they will not feed.

Sorry for you Kathy, my 6 year old , can tell rots from artemia, all species of fish, and can identify goby,clown, gramma or dottyback larvae.He also tells the artemia"you are going to die!" when i am going to feed.

Great pic Kathy.

Your kids sound as about as interested as my GF! She just says im a fish geek when i am peering at my nests or larvae for hours! Really doesnt get the fascination. Oh well! LOL
