I came down to get some water and began spying on the tank with my red light when i noticed my feather dusters feathers were on the sand!!! What happened? Is this normal? Is it still alive and just sheds that? Yikes help

Is the feather duster new to your tank?
If it is then this is quite common as it is stressed after being moved so it will grow his feathers (crown) back in a week or so.
Make sure your feed phyto or something similar to the tank as they are filter feeders or they will starve and keep shedding their crown until inevitable death.

Well its been 5 days now and nothing has changed...does it take longer for it to grow its crown back? and no its not new, its been in there for about 5 months

i'd leave it in there, you never know. Take a flashlight and look down the tube at night and see if you can see anything.

it normally takes them liek a week and half to regrow it so leave it alone, if you dont knwo if it is dead or not, just disturb it a little bit and either feel for its retraction motion or look for the water flow that is produced out of its tail when it retracts, BASICALLY jsut wait, if you cant go in a touch it :)
