Abnormal Growth on Rocks

[Confuse]

I have something similar. It looks like coraline and cyano, but it's not. It's not blown off and it feels slimy. But it is ALL OVER my rocks. Its kind of annoying as I want coraline to grow, but this stuff has taken over.

So it's official? It's a sponge?

Yep 95% sure it's sponge. Sound like it to me. The sponge is fine as long at is doesn't start creeping over your other corals and killing them witch Iv never had that problem other then that I loves sponges it's one of my favorite corals. I have all kinds of colors. They just come in on as a hitchhiker

Yes I looked at it closer. There are holes with small upright tubes on each hole.

This is alive. It's very beautiful. Mine is clashing over and against some coralline so it's a great mix.

What are the benefits of having a sponge?

Nothing really.. While they do have the ability to filter the water, the rate in which they do so incredibly slow. You would have to have a ton of sponges to really see any significant results. (cryptic zone)
