Well, as a member of the Scientific Inquisition (see sig.), I've got to point out that these equations are not always true. There are a few diseases or other maladies that result in extreme polyp extension. By the same token, some perfectly happy corals will grow like wildfire, have intense colors, and have the worst extension ever.
That's just not the case here
...Beautiful corals!
