I saw this fish at the LFS for $24, and I really like the way it looks. My question is.... is this Wrasse reef safe and will it eat my inverts? The fish thats in my tank now is a pair of False Percula Clownfish, Purplefire Fish, Yellow Watchman, Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse. For inverts I have a Cleaner Shrimp, Feather Duster, about 20 various snail, and hermit. I also plan on getting a clam in the future. Should I go ahead and get this fish? Thanks in advance.

I've had one for 2 years and he's very peaceful. He's a great flatworm hunter, but doesn't seem to bother any inverts. He even seems to do pretty well with other smaller wrasses. I have all the inverts you've listed, and he's OK with them. He's super hardy and has survived a faulty heater and an ich outbreak. He's really one of my favorite fish. I'll try and put a pic in my gallery shortly. If he's truly H. Melanurus, I say go for it.

Thanks thats want I wanted to hear. Eclecticvibe do also have a clam? Does anyone else have any experience with this Wrasse? I would like to by this wrasse today if it's going to be a good boy to my inverts. Thanks.

He'll bury himself in your sandbed everynight when it's bedtime. Mine also goes to sleep about 15 minutes before the halides go off. Pretty uncanny how he knows when it's time for bed.

I wouldn't suggest the wrasse in a barebottom. They're natural behaviour is to bury when they sleep. I'd think it would be extremely stressful at LEAST, and I doubt it would make it more than a few days. But then again I'm always surprised. The fauna that the sandbed produces seems to be one of the wrasse's favourite foods too.
