i have had my theo heater by hydor for a few years now.do heaters wear out over time.and whats a good heater i can get for my 90 gal that is solid.thanks for your replys.
Heaters can wear out and usually fail in the "on" position to make it worse. You should invest in a controller of some kind to act as a fail safe to the heater should it fail in the on position the controller will shut it down.
A double failsafe would be instead of 1 300 watt heater, get 2 150's or 3 100's. If one of them fails in the on position, it won't be enough to cook the tank.
My Ebo Jager from 2001 is still going strong. BUT, using a controller is a nice safeguard, or if you don't want to go that route, the two weaker heaters is another good option.
+1 on a controller to keep heaters safe. like stated above they do go out and mostly in on position. by the time noticed it will boil the tank.
controller will cut power once temp hits a preset degree.
