What would I need to tell a metal fabricator ( the size/ thickness & whatever else I need to know ) for a 72x24x30H glass tank as I start my journey to find someone to build it for me.
Also if anyone knows of a place to get this around Chicago I would greatly appreciate the tip. - Thanks.

I am no engineer but I can tell you I just built my own Steel stand for my 72"x30"x16" sump. I used 1.5"x1.5" square tube 1/8" wall and it is Very solid. I was plannig on adding 45* support braces but really felt they were not needed. I would be very comfortable with this stand holding twice the weight that it will hold. ;)

Extremely sturdy would probably be 2"x2" square tube by 3/16" wall.
I'm sure any good Fab shop could tell you what the weight rating per foot for each of the square tubes would be...

Heres a pic of mine, ignore the mess, it was a dirty job to do inside. :)

The steel on mine cost about 300 ish and the labor was about the same. found a guy at a welding shop that I paid 20 an hr to build it.

15 hrs labor sounds about right. I probably had that into my smaller stand. I'm not a pro fab guy tho. :D

My steel was $1.85 a foot, I bought 60 feet.

If anyone wants to get an idea of what is involved in building your own steel stand, theres a few pictures of mine going together in my sump thread.

My steel was delivered this week...240 feet of 1.5" .125 wall thickness. My buddy the welder will be here Saturday. It will be a copy of the Sidewinder 770 super stand!!!
