??? about reusing sand

I'm currently setting up a 24 gal nano reef and have about 75# of ls from a fowlr I tore down about 3 weeks ago. At the time I tore the tank down, the nitrates were a little high. Do you think this sand would be ok for the sandbed in my nano, or should I go with new sand? any opinions?

I would just clean the sand very good, until you see the water in the container in which you are cleaning it clear.
Then just get a couple of cups of good live sand to seed it.

Well that is what I did and I have had no problems.

I would wash it, let it sit in water for a few hours to soften up the crusty dead stuff and then wash it again. Unless you washed it right after originally removing it from the previous tank.

just got through doing that myself with about 1200 lbs of the stuff

Thanks for the replies. The sand has been in a rubbermaid w/ about 1" of water covering it for 3 weeks. Think it's still alive?
