Does anyone know much about these guys. I am looking into getting one for my tank. Will they be alright with shrimp in the tank?

I have zoa's and zenia in my tank right now. I here they are ify as far as reef compatability, so does anyone have any experience with that as well? Let me know if you can. These little guys just look so awesome!

Thanks

they are a hardy fish but will eat shrimps and fish that will fit in it's body. they are not a threat to corals.

I think it would go for your shrimp, crabs, and firefish. Doesn't it behave a lot like a Lionfish? An ambush predator that eats whatever fits in its mouth? I could be wrong but I'd say its coral safe but not safe with crustations or small fish.

I haven't had one of these fish but I have read about them. I agree that it will eat whatever fish/shrimp it can fit in it's mouth.

You guys had to rain on my parade didn't you :D I believe they are ambush preditors, but I'm not certain, that's why I was asking about them ;) . The one I saw at a LFS was only 2 inches big, and Liveaquria says it can get to 4 inches big.

4 inches isn't too big, but may be big enough to snack on some crabs or a shrimp. That's what I was worried about. Being that I have a fire shrimp in my tank, I'm really not interested in making him a very expensive snack for someone else.

So I should leve him be at the LFS? Way to rain on my parade :(

I think they will eat ANYTHING that will fit in their mouths. They had one at the LFS a few months ago and were feeding it goldfish that were larger than a full grown Perc. So proceed with caution and be sure to keep in mind what else you want to house in the tank. Don't want a goby to turn out to be a $40 feeder fish :D
