AC3 Net setup help

Hello,

I just picked up a used AC3 and installed it last night. Prior to installing I flashed the memory and updated to the latest firmware. I connected the controller to my home network using a gaming adapter and everything was working perfectly. When I was on my home network I was able to control the controller via my iPhone, and Aquanotes on my labtop.

Today I am at work and tried to connect to my AC3 via my iPhone and again my labtop and have been unable to connect. I called the wife and she can still connect via my home desktop PC.

Anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? Thanks

Did you set up port forwarding in your router? If not, download the Apex User Guide from http://reeftech.webs.com/. Use the section on networking to configure everything for external access from the Internet. While the Guide is specifically written for the Apex, the same concepts and process applies to networking the AC3 family.

Hmm....well I guess I'll have to do that. I didn't realize I needed to set port forwarding in order to access from an external link. Thanks for the help and link.

A home router does two basic functions... it permits multiple devices to share the single IP address assigned by your ISP, and by default & in the interest of security, it denies all traffic originating on the Internet from reaching your computers and other networked devices.

In order to permit inbound traffic, you must tell the router:
a) what type of traffic to permit inbound
b) what internal IP address to send that particular type of traffic to
c) if the permitted inbound traffic should be modified in certain ways

Port forwarding does all of these.

well I read through the networking section and didn't see anything about port forwarding. Looks like I've got some more research to do.
