AC3 to wireless nework

My daughter wants an Ipad for her birthday. We have a wired router. I will need to go wireless for her to use the WiFi. I have an AC3 hooked up via a wired USB cable. How do I connect it to a wireless router. Do I need any extra hardware or anything?

Just buy a different router. The wireless routers typically have 4 ethernet connections on the back for hard wiring. Plug the AC3 into that.

You need what's commonly known as a wireless gaming adapter. Once you have the new router up and running, you configure the gaming adapter to connect wirelessly to the router, then connect the controller to the adapter with a short Ethernet cable.

I recommend the Netgear WNCE2001 or the Trendnet TEW-647GA. The Trendnet is available online for about $45; Best Buy and Walmart have the Netgear for around $60. If you are an Apple fan, the Apple Airport Express will do the trick rather nicely too, albeit at about $110.

EDIT: The above only applies if you want to connect the AC3 wirelessly. If you want to keep the AC3 wired, follow Alan's sage advice.

I actually have an extra wireless router that I'm not using. Is it possible to use this extra router next to the aquarium to allow access for an AC3?? If so, is there a FAQ answer on that? ;)

Some wireless routers do have the capability to be a wireless client, but most do not. Some don't have it natively, but the capability may be added using a third-party firmware called DD-WRT. What model router?

Personally, I'd just pick up a wireless gaming adapter... they are much smaller (the NetGear is smaller than a deck of cards)

Russ,

Thanks for the fast reply! I actually have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router currently running at my home.

And my brother recently gave me an extra router he had, the Linksys WRT310N (version 2), which I just read can't support DD-WRT. I read that the 1st version has that capability, but not this one. :(

If possible, could/should I switch routers and place the WRT54G next to the tank if it has the "bridge" capability?? Or will this not work either?

If you don't want to tackle this one, it's cool. :) Thanks either way.

The WRT54G is a wireless router. Yes, it has 4 wired ports on it but should also be wireless
