Acalycigorgia, blueberry sea fan

Hello everyone !

I wanted to know if you have maintained a acalycigorgia, and if you have tips on maintenance, the difficulty? It's for my azoox tank.

And what is the difference between a acalycigorgia and purple acalycigorgia?

The care requirements are the same - different colour varieties. The longest i kept one was about 8 months.

I would try live rotifers and maybe freshly hatched bbs and other smaller foods. I have had no success using dried foods.

Just FYI - the genus acalycigorgia isn't an accepted one. I know everyone uses it.

Can't really see from your photo but these "blueberry" gorgs have a very distinct polyp shape. I am assuming your purple one has the same polyp shape. You can readily see the shape in the 2nd photo.

Thank you for your answer, for her i have reef pearl, red plankton, planktomarine and artemia, i hope have reussit with !

My question was, purple is for the colors of the branches or for the polyps ? or blueberry sea fan has always blue polyps ?

All i can tell you is that "blueberry gorgonian" is a common name and when used it usually refers to those gorgonians with the distinctive light blue polyps.

Acalycigorgia which is commonly used as a genus identifier is not accept (see the WoRMS site and the UNESCO site). The reference genus is Acanthogorgia.

I tried to look up a few pictures of different Acanthogorgia species - they do have different coloured polyps - so if the polyps are purple then it may be a difference species. If the polyp is a completely different shape - it may be a completely different genus altogether.

The submissions for a lot of the Acanthogorgia species (there are lots) go back to before colour photos so its hard to get a picture of the exact species.
