acan coloration

so ive had this one acan for several months. he came in with really nice colors (see pic below). i was feeding him like twice a week and all was well. after awhile he started to loose his colors, which i believe was due to my lighting. i have 250w MH over a 30 gallon. now im more of an sps guy, but i have a few nice lps in my collection as well. this coral being one of them. so he basically went from the nice dark green in the pic below, to a more of a lime green and the black turned to more of a pale grey (sorry, dont have an updated pic). i believe this is due to my intense lighting.

so, im running a fuge as well. 10 gallon tank w/ a 65 w PC over it. do you think it we be better for the acan if i was to put him in the fuge and continue spot feeding him? would the less intense lighting along with spot feeding help him to gain his color back? im not great with LPS, and from what i understand intense lighting isnt the best for them.

any help?

heres the pic of when i first got him

I would give that a try. I have acans form 250s to PCs. Ones under hilides tend to change color(some better some worse).

i honestly dont think the color could have gotten any better on this particular piece. i think im gunna move him. any other opinions?

on a side note, i have this red/pink/white aussie acan under the 250w and hes starting to go rainbow. hes getting a thin stripe of green and yellow to him. hopefully its a change for the better.

If it initially came from weaker lighting blasting it with 250's could affect it. I know people who have them under 400's but they've been acclimated.

Mine change colors in a 150 mh, just from position. Sometimes they change from tank to tank as well.

Under 150 mh, but its really high in my tank, probably 6-8 inches from the light

Now I have them under 20k's and they look different then both of those.

i keep my acans under 400w MH. i took my time acclimating them. personally i think they prefer high light.
make sure your spot feeding them too.

ive been spot feeding, and if i remember correctly, the piece came from similar lighting. maybe its just one of those tank to tank coloration differences.

thanks for the help and any other opinions/ideas welcome.
