In my experience it is tiny worms that are in the skeleton. If you cut very close under the live part and dip it in fresh water you will sometimes see them come out. If you are lucky they will be in the cut off part and the coral will be saved. They seem to become dormant at times and can reemerge months later, IME.

I have never used Interceptor to try and kill them but I probably will now. Praziquantal has no effect. I would recommend pulling them out and dipping them in something. Fresh water and iodine at the very least.

FWIW: Interceptor turned my entire tank brown about a year ago and it is just getting back to normal now..

I have tried everthing i can do, i have dragon skin acans,rainbows,and so on.all my acans are next to eachother and some do awsome and others i have sent to freinds to take care of.. They do recover but when i get them back they recied faster than i can do waterchanges/weekly. Iam sick and tierd trying to figure out whats wrong.. these are one of my favorite corals.. But i have no sucess with the high end /rainbows. every other coral including chalices,zoas,sps,lobos, zoa's,and normal acans meaning red,green,purple,and orange do well..i guess the next step is to hate the rainbows and than i might have sukcess....i even hade the fish store check my water to see if my test kits are off. but every thing comes back normal..i guess iam done with acans and that really hurts..if someone knows a trick let me know?? thanks and good luck to all....

I feel your pain. No matter what I do, I can't keep the high-end acans happy. Everything else is colorful and growing.
