Ok I have never seen an acan grading until I started using this forum....any details or ideas abuut how people are grading them?

I mean is it just the more vibrate color the higher the grade? I just see people using the terms super grade on pieces I would have thought were common aussies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the grading system is used mainly by wholesalers who are classifying them in order to price/order large groups of varying acans. Not all of them have the brightest colors and so they would get lower grades and come in at lower prices. I think the grading that is popping up between hobbyists is just an artifact of that system (if someone sells you a super-grade acan you're going to tell the next guy it is super-grade as well). I'd say it isn't all that different from the name game that goes on with different zoa polyps and high-end SPS.

I'm still not sure that all of that junk doesn't do a huge disservice to the hobby... but that's getting away from answering your question.

Well that makes sense... I guess I didnt think about being a wholeseller thing. And I see where people would carry the tag of being a supergrade if it had been called that. Im sure its like anything being graded(coins , cards)....its all in the eye of the beholder

Yeah, I'm not too big on the super grade, limited edition stuff. I just get what I like. If you have the same exact coral as a Tyree LE it isn't nearly as desireable just because it's great, great, great, great, great grandparent wasn't in his tank. Some are worth more because of the rairity and I can see that.

I think they look at it like this.

Grade B would be your blah colors like gray, tan, light green, light red, etc..

Grade A would be your more vibrant and bright red, orange, green, with the mix of any of the TWO colors maybe even THREE.

Ultra would be Three or more colors also considered Rainbow.

I kinda agree with Rev too. However, lol I have purple, green, and white that is very nice but I have a pink and white that seperates itself from any other acan its sitting beside!!! And I also have one with 2 diff color oranges that I would say is an Ultra so who knows... I will try and post pics tonight to give you an idea.

I welcome any input as to how you might grade some of these..

These pics were taken under very avg lighting!!! I just set up a 20L as a frag tank and I am using some old lights for temps....its 2 light strips with 80 total watts (2x25 and 1x30) and 1 of the 25's is actinic.

Maybe ultra, ultra, A, A, B, maybe A, maybe A. Ultras are a stretch from some of the others, but they have three contrasting colors... The greens are usually excluded from ultras from what I've seen.

Thats about what I would have guessed.. I kinda thought that about the greens too. I love the green with the ring around it.. I havent seen many like that in my short time collecting them.

Although the greens don't glow like many of the others, I like the colors and patterns of a lot of them better in most cases... so for once in my life I like the cheaper option.

It's almost like every green colony is just slightly different than the last, so none are exactly the same.
