Acan Growth

Ok so i was just wondering approximately how long it takes a healthy acan head to slip into two. I have a 8 bulb t5ho fixture on my tank and the acan is at the snd level in my 55 gallon. I am in no rush for this guy to grow i am just wondering.

They don't really split, new heads will start popping up along side the base of the existing head. I've found the best thing for acans is moderate lighting with moderate to low flow with the occasional feeding.

It's hard to give an actual amount of time as mine seem to generate new heads sporadically. What I can tell you is that I have one piece that I bought as a frag in May of 2011, it was in rough shape. One full head and two heads were fragged right down the center. So it's been about 8 months and that piece is now 8 full heads.

With an 8 bulb fixture on a 55, throw it on the bottom of your tank on the side (depending on how it looks of course). That is a lot of light for a 55. I had a 4 bulb and that was just bright enough for sps to stay fairly colorful and grow. Feeding a small amount daily to the acan will make it grow very quick in conjunction with keeping a consistent level of alkalinity. If you want it to grow even faster (and this goes with all lps) Feeding each polyp of your colony will make it grow even faster!
