any thoughts?

Not so sure. It is definitely a Mussid. How are the corallites arranged? are they close together or separated by a space?

If they are separated by a reasonable gap, it sounds more like Lobophyllia sp. to me. A. maxima's corallites are arranged very tightly together, from what I have seen.

It looks like Eric was unable to identify the coral in the pic, so I know there is no way I can.

you see the pic there not seperate like a lobo grows seperate. I looked it verns book and seem closest to the acan max out of indo

Looks like a lobo as well. I seen an alledged max, and it looked like a micromussa/acan but huge.

I think my photo skills are confusing you guys this looks like a acan but with huge polyps. i think the polyps that are splitting and how close my photos are make it look lobo'ish but what do i know i thinks these are fava sp

Actually to me it looks like a maxima or closer to a max than a lobo. The second pic gives you a better presentation of its structure. But as always, the only true way to id is to examine its coralite structure after death.

ranran, look up the terms 'phaceloid' and 'cerioid' and let me know which one matches your coral's skeleton the most (if at all possible). That may be more helpful in coming close to identifying it.
