It's an interesting thing to see, but I'd move the favia/montastrea away if I were you. IMO the favia/montastrea is nicer than the lord.

That is sweet! I have seen a video on Blue planet(?) that shows the coral getting eaten in timelapse. At least you caught it before it totally destroyed the little guy.

Here is the mother colony of that favia :) it's really amazing the coloration at the different places within the tank.

Lol, I woke up to find my acan enchinita doing to same thing on a brain nearby, luckily it's a hardy favia and grew back very quickly, it's now in a much safer place and the acan has a nice cleared out area all around it. Is anything safe by acans?

It's not digesting per say, but attacking it.

As for anything being safe by acans, not really. They don't have a long range, but will absolutely dominate anything that gets close. I can a colony of zoa's fall on an orange crush. It couldn't have been there for long (couple hours at max). The zoas were almost completely wiped out, with the acan polyps just slightly less puffy. Within 15 minutes the acan was back to normal and you'd never have guessed anything happened.

These two were close for several months too, until that happened, something must of trigger the attack, the favia have swippers at night pretty long ones too.

Most lords do fine around other lords and the same should go for echinatas. Since echinatas are so aggresive it wouldn't surprise me to see one attack a subechinata or something similar.

I had two subechinatas, one obtained after the other, that I mounted on a big flat rock surface about three and a half inches from one another. They've since spread and met. They are now growing with a four-inch area where they touch...with no damage to either. You can get an idea from this pic....
