acan lord shrank

i need your help:
my 10 inch acan lord, shrank and all the polyps are inside.
i have it for 7 months and it was doing great, all extanded.
i never changed the location and its in the same place for the last 7 months. i cant understand it: nothing changed, only one of the actinic bulb was lost but its only 36w, from 372W overall watts. the temp is steady , and if something drastic happend, i would have lost all the acro first.
another thing: i saw that the polyp spill brown stuff from their mouthes, i guess its the excess zoo?
all my fishes staterd to nip on those brown strings... do you think that this is the reason? (i put a plastic box to shield it, but still, the polyps are in:( )/
any ideas?

Something had to happen, Acro's sometimes wont show stress right away and could take a week or 2 to show up.
I would try a iodine dip in tankwater to see if it helps.
I also would wait till someone with more knowledge comes along.
I am not that hip with LPS.
Good luck!!

cluvir, do you have tangs in your tank? If not, do you have any fishes that you've seen swimming around your acans. I had the same problem recently with most of my acans. Closed up for months, then one day I saw the blue tang nipping on it, the tang tried to rip a piece of meat off the acan. I setup a smaller 30g the next day and pulled all of my acans out. A few days later, they opened up.

Last night, I tried to move my scoly back to the main tank, and as soon as I put it in, the blue tang was at it again. I don't think it's your water param as acans are very hardy. Check your fishes.

you are right, i have yellow tang, naso , and they seem to "eat" the acan, they rip flesh from her.
i dont understand: arent they "reef safe"?
so the only solution is to transfer the acan to another tank?
i really love that coral, he is amazing and i really dont want to lose it!

My tank is too big for me to catch the tangs and cook it. :D The last time I did that, I had to take out all the rocks. If you can catch the fish, try to do it if you want to keep the acan in the tank. But the fish will not stop doing that, I thought they were safe too, but this is the second time I've had this problem with two different sets to tangs.

he could just be releasing his excrement, many of my lps do this about once a month, or once every few months.

That was my thought. And the fish nipping at them has them stressed right now.
