acan not looking right--help

I have an acan that just hasn't opened up fully the last few days. Water tests fine as has been since before the acan was in the tank. Nothing has changed that I can tell. I did move some rocks around but thats it. All other corals seem fine. Any thoughts or ideas? I will try to post pics later but the camera battry is dead. The acan has not lost any color just not fully open or extended like normal.

what do you feed it? I have never fed it before other than what goes in the tank -- brine, mysis, and formula 1. What do you suggest?

whatever you are feeding your tank currently it will take happily. You will more than likely have to spot feed that particular piece about 2 a week or 1 if you are lazy like me :). Feed it every day if you want, it seems to take it every time. Use a turkey baster or a tweezer or something that can hold the small piece of food. Turn off your flow during the feeding. And manually place each piece of food close to the mouth. It will take it in as soon as the food land on its mouth. Depends on how big the piece is, it doesn't take that long to feed. Once it is used to the feeding schedule, it will open its feeder tentacles at the same time everyday. I feed mine once a week if that tells you anything, should feed it more though (faster growth).

In my experience, it's pretty common for freshly added Acans to act like that. Usually my new additions will do that for a few days... I've even had some look like they were on death's doorstep for a few weeks.

More than likely they will still extend their feeders at night. Take the opportunity to spot feed them then. You don't need to shut the flow off, unless they are getting blasted. They will catch the food, bring it into the mouth, and enclose around it... once they grip it... it's not going anywhere. I spot feed mine a mix of Cyclopeeze, Mysis Shriomp, and Frozen Brine Shrimp 2 to 3 times per week.

These were the worst ones I had... they were on and off for like 2 weeks after I added them, and still shrink up occaisionally. Oddly enough they are my fastest grower now, and I counted 15 new heads on them ranging from a little smaller that a dime to the size of a nickle the other day.

Good Luck.

i had one that just looked like that recently same deal just ride it out mine came back. i moved a rock above it and i dont think it liked the new light

i dont think the light is any different the flow may be a little stronger now. They have been in the tanks for several months now and looked great until a few days ago. Will try the spot feeding to see how they respond. Thanks

+1 for a change in flow. Find that anytime I move anything about in my tank it takes about a week for the acans I have to become their normal plump selves. Give a week or so wouldn't get worried at all especially if the feeders still come out..even if it is only a few.
