Acans and MH?

Rhinecanthus

In Memoriam
I have an Acan that is doing well and I am thinking about moving it up a few more inches towards the light...single 150w halide.

Any worries about it bleaching?

i'm gunna watch this...

as i'm slowly acclamating my lords from a 550w vho/pc system to a dual 250w hqi MH system :-p

what other tips and suggestions would you guys suggest to know when the lords are comfortable with it's current area, and ready to move?

dont mean to hijack... tho i think my question will help yours...

I jut got a couple acans, and micros, and you can tell by how puffed up they get if their happy with flow and light.
From what i hear they will lose color with too much light, That less is more with them for flow and light.
Some of the best color acans and micro's are in very low light.
(That i have seen) There are very nice ones too with more light like RandyO's tank.
Would also like to hear from the acan and micro officianado's here.
I wouldent think 150w halides are too strong. If you do move it up shorten the photo period. I do this with new acro's that dont come from 400w tanks like mine to help them adjust, and catch it before they get fried.
I am doing this as well for my acans and micros so they dontget fried as well. They didnt like 400 watt 10ks too much at first, so they are in some what shaded area's and low flow.
They are getting much better and puffing up nicely.

I've got 2 150w 10k HQI mhs over a 20l. They are about 6 inches above the tank. I've got 2 echinatas and a lord. the echinata's don't didn' color up that well and the rainbow one lost color. the lord, however turned blue in all the areas that it was white.

here is a pic of one of the echinatas

My Acans like to be in the shade in my tank (under 250 watt halide with 2 65 watt PC's) I find they dont mind the extra light but I lose a lot of the nice color that I have when I keep them in the shade

Mine are fine at the bottom of my clean 2ft deep tank with 250de 14k phx.

I also keep these type of lps at the bottom around corners and such .

But beware I have turned the bottom of my tank into an acro deathzone . Don't let an acro fall in my tank

Just an update...my orange crush acan is still about 8" below 150w MH with 14k bulb and it is brighter than ever. Amazing polyp extension and it eats like a horse. I have it flush up against a rock I would like it to extend onto so we will see how that goes over the next few months.

these were under 250 mh 14k up high with my sps
