Acans turning clear

Hey all...I've got some acans that over the last few months to a year seem to be slowly losing their pigment and becoming almost clear. Its the craziest thing.

There's a couple things I am guessing may be contributing but thought I'd see what you all think..

1. I've started running Bio Pellets again. I'm quietly wondering if there is some sort of issue that the acans dont like about it. Keep in mind my tank is still not ultra clean...Nitrates are at 20 and P04 is still high at .15. So its not like its because of super low nutrient levels.

2. I haven't fed my LPS directly in years. When I used to spot feed my acans I seem to remember them doing pretty good. Once I turned my attention to my sticks and needed cleaner water that all stopped. I'm wondering if I should start back up again. Has anyone seen an improvement in pigment color/quantity when feeding their acans? When I ask my fellow reefers around here if they spot feed I get a mixed response. So I'm always wondering...

Any thoughts are welcome...:beer:

Edit: Changed my mind...I'm sure its not my SPS additives.

i used to have the same problem, i know its a stupid question but where are they placed in ur tank? mine was middle high up when i have that problem now they are at the bottom of the tank and they are doing great

yes i spot feed them when i can but most of the time its jsut a total blow out feeding,

what were your no3 and po4 reading before starting the pellets? even thought he levels are still pretty high, they may have been drastically reduced fairly quickly causing the bleaching...

have you recently changed your bulbs? new brighter bulbs may have stressed the corals too..

Really sounds like lighting (too much) but If your tank is consistently low/absent of nutrients then I would definitely consider starting to target feed your LPS. Even a couple times a week should make a difference.

I can't say I see a difference between feeding and not feeding since I feed my corals quite a bit and always have. I can say that their colors are always strong, just not sure if the feedings are the cause of that.

I have the same issue. Bought some really nice red acans. Put them in my tank on the bottom and they went from red to pink to almost clear. I moved them to the top and nothing changed. I put them back on the bottom now and under an overhang to see what that does for them. They get spot fed once a week. Still confused. They are multiplying but not expanding like they should.
