Since in my research I've found a lot of mixed info on these, and stuff that's really old...

Well my question then is posed to the general Reef Central community: what size tank is suggested for this species, and why?

They get 6-8" full grown and being it's a tang I would suggest a tank of at least 6ft in length and 150g although bigger is always better when it comes to tanks for tangs

Actually I did see LiveAquaria, but I avoid it whenever possible. The more I've search for information on whatever organism I am interested in, the more I find that LiveAquaria is off by a mile.

So yeah, I do use it as a very basic guide, but otherwise avoid it like the plague. For example on the same first page, fishbase lists the temperature for these guys as 24-28 degrees celcius (75-82 fahrenheit), LiveAquaria didn't even come close. These guys are also actually at the bottom of the pecking order among surgeonfish, not the other way around as LiveAquaria has it.

Whilst sure, some information does match (such as it being a herbivore) and stuff, the fact they do get heaps of stuff wrong means that I am wary when dealing with stuff that doesn't have information from better sources, such as tank size and so on.

Which is why I decided to ask here for people's experiences.

Good rule of thumb is at least a 6ft long tank and the more gallons the better when it comes to tangs

In general, I would agree that this a a rational minimum. The naso tangs would do best in 10 foot or longer tanks with an 8 foot minimum.

If it's really off personal experiences collated, then sure. And really, I don't trust anything as much as a peer-reviewed paper, but this is the next best thing. Way better than those sort of websites like LiveAquaria anyways. :)

It's nice to see an actual 'min volume' AND 'min length' by the way. That's definitely something that's necessary with these sort of animals. Just 'min volume' is not enough.
